Red Barn Land was founded by Heather Thomson. Heather worked for over 30 years in the nonprofit sector, as a program director and fundraiser for organizations including Habitat for Humanity and the YMCA. She also worked for a time as realtor, and while successful in that role, she grew disillusioned by the high cost of homeownership in California and the fact that as of 2025, only 17% of California residents could afford to purchase a median-priced home in the state.

Heather then founded Red Barn Land to do real estate differently, by creating a business model built on a commitment to genuine win/win transactions for everyone involved. She is known for her diligence, commitment to excellence, work ethic, enthusiasm, and sense of humor.

When not working, Heather volunteers her time at the local food bank, swims, hikes, camps, and explores California and beyond, and savors time spent with family and friends.
